Leaders Need To Admit They Make Mistakes

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011
  • One of the truest test of a leader is his/her ability to admit they are/were wrong.
  • Another true test of a leader is to apologize to the person they have wronged.
  • A third test of a leader is apologize publicly when a leader has wronged another publicly.

Too often leaders think it is a sign of weakness to admit they make mistakes.  Consequently, they often fail on all three of the items listed above. But a true leader realizes that it is when they humble themselves, admit they made a mistake and seek to make it right that they build loyalty and earn the respect of those they seek to lead.

Cyber Monday

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Cyber Monday hype is huge this weekend.  Mainly because “Black Friday” sales were record setting and so the next big push is to make Cyber Monday a record day as well. I am thankful for the $1-billion dollars in extra spending this year as compared to last year.

Cyber Monday promises to allow you complete and easy access to retailers all over from the comfort of you home or office.  Easy shopping, great bargins and even in some cases free gift wrapping and free delivery. I like it.  In fact, I have used the Internet for years to buy most if not all of my presents. No lines, no parking lots and no crowds. It doesn’t get any better than that for me.

All of the hype about Cyber Monday made me think about my connection to the Lord. God is always available to me, no matter where I am, no matter what time of day it is. I don’t need a sale or a coupon to get God’s best. I don’t need a computer or an Internet connection either.

With all of the Christmas shopping hype it might be wise to remember…God is available instantly 24/7. He offers a constant stream of unchanging benefits.

Update – End Malaria

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

About six weeks ago I asked you to join me and the Domino Project and help End Malaria.

Here is an update written by Seth about the project. Thanks for your support.

About six weeks ago, we launched a massive multi-author book called End Malaria.

Here’s what’s happened since:

  • It became a top 10 bestseller.
  • We raised more than $250,000 in sales and sponsorships for Malaria No More–every penny spent on the ebook goes to them, and the same amount from every paperback copy sold.
  • The book received more than 30 five-star reviews.
  • Conversations were had among hundreds of thousands of people about the ideas in the book–ideas that can jumpstart your projects, change your approach and grow your organization.
  • Thank you for saving lives.

If you haven’t gotten your copy, you’ve missed something. Today is the best day to catch up.

Never Liked Reading the Book of Job

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Until Today!

I never have like the book. NEVER. It has always been hard for me to read. Today, God revealed something new and fresh to me as I was finishing the book.

We all know that God restored Job. Many of us know that God not only restored him but he gave him twice as much as he had before. Some of us know that he lived for 4-more generations, 140-years.

But, I never knew that it was a result of Job praying for his friends.

“And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends.”

Somehow, I had missed that God did not restore anything to him until Job did the Godly thing, pray for his friends. Pray for those that had doubted him, mocked him and condemned him. Those that had been so mean and had accused him of being such a bad person.

Something else God taught me in this passage. God did not tell Job to pray for his friends. Job prayed for them without God speaking to him about it. It was a natural response of Job’s heart to pray for his friends no matter how terrible they had treated him. Job still did the right thing.

Then I prayed for a  friend.

I learned a lot from Job today.

Veterans Day 11.11.11

Friday, November 11th, 2011

My dad served in World War II. I remember as a child looking through his  army things in a trunk in our attic. I thought the uniform and the ribbons were really neat. I thought his army helmet was cool. I grew up watching Combat on TV. I remember sweating it out hoping my birthday would not come up in the lottery when I turned 18. Vietnam was a blaze as I graduated high school. Honestly, I was scared I would be drafted.

I remember praying for my kids and asking God to spare them from war and I praise God that none of them had to go to war.

One day my step-son Blake came home from high school and over dinner told his mom and me that he had enlisted in the Marines. Of course we thought he was kidding but he was serious. He graduated high school and then from boot camp. Twice he shipped out to Iraq and spent another tour in North Africa and Jordan. Thankfully, he returned home in one piece.  Now married and finishing college.

I am eternally thankful to my dad and to Blake for their service to our country. They served me and our country to make sure we remain free and enjoy the greatest life and country on earth. Hundreds of thousands of other men and women have served us in the same way. Laying their life on the line for us. Many gave their life to protect what we enjoy. We are indebted to all of them.

To me, we owe them more than a debt of gratitude. I think we owe them honor and a commitment to not let our country decline. To stand up and be counted. To fight for our country. To resist political and social leaders that want to destroy the fabric of what has made this country great. We owe a debt to my Dad, to Blake and all of the others like them that have fought for our freedom, battled to preserve our heritage. Will we turn our back on them and allow our great country to now become a socialistic society? To me, that would mean what they fought to preserve was wasted. I don’t believe that and I am not willing to stand by ideally and watch that happen.

Celebrate Veterans Day, Stand up! Speak up! Honor our soldiers!

Circle Maker – Part – 6

Image of The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears
One of my favorite chapters in Mark Batterson’s new book is title;

The Solution to Ten Thousand Problems

Mark Writes;

God asks Moses a question. It’s more than a question; it’s the question. Your answer to this question, the question, will determine the size of your prayer circles.

“Is there a limit to my power?”

No!

God is infinitely bigger than your biggest problem or biggest dream.

A good friend of mine found out he had cancer a few weeks ago. In fact, his doctor thought it was into his bones. But, he prayed, his family prayed, we prayed and the test results determined it was not in his bones!  Now, he goes around telling people he “JUST has cancer.” I love his attitude. My friend knows there is no limit to God. He knows God is bigger than even cancer.

What are you worried about, what is your biggest problem?

What are you dreaming about, what is your biggest dream?

God is Bigger! So circle your prayers around them and trust God for the answers.

Dream Big. Pray Hard. Think Long.

According to Pastor Mark Batterson in his book, The Circle Maker, “Drawing prayer circles around our dreams isn’t just a mechanism whereby we accomplish great things for God. It’s a mechanism whereby God accomplishes great things in us.” Do you ever sense that there’s far more to prayer, and to God’s vision for your life, than what you’re experiencing? It’s time you learned from the legend of Honi the Circle Maker—a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people. What impossibly big dream is God calling you to draw a prayer circle around? Sharing inspiring stories from his own experiences as a circle maker, Mark Batterson will help you uncover your heart’s deepest desires and God-given dreams and unleash them through the kind of audacious prayer that God delights to answer.

God Honors Bold Prayers because
Bold Prayers Honor God
